Up to 12 legs. Each leg is added to the total trip distance.

Total trip cost

Enter at least one leg distance, the vehicle's fuel economy, and the fuel price. The total trip cost appears here.

Estimates use the values you entered. Real fuel use can vary with traffic, weather, speed, and load. Everything runs in your browser. Inputs are never uploaded.

How to use

  1. Pick miles or kilometres for distance, then enter one or more legs. Use Add leg for multi-stop trips. Toggle Round trip to double every leg.
  2. Choose the fuel economy unit you have on hand (MPG US, MPG UK, L/100km, or km/L), then type the value for your vehicle.
  3. Choose the price unit (per US gallon, per UK gallon, or per litre), enter the gas price, then pick a currency for the output.
  4. Optional: add a flat extra cost for tolls or parking, and the number of people splitting the trip. The per-person share appears in the result panel.
  5. Read the total trip cost, fuel needed, cost per mile and per 100 km, and the per-leg breakdown. Use Copy summary to send a clean text report to your notes or a group chat.

About this tool

Gas Trip Cost Calculator estimates the total fuel cost of a road trip from three inputs: total distance, the vehicle's fuel economy, and the price of gas. Distance can be entered in miles or kilometres, and the trip can be split across up to 12 legs so multi-stop drives, weekly commute totals, and there-and-back schedules are easy to plan without a spreadsheet. A round trip toggle doubles every leg in one click so you do not have to remember to enter the return distance manually. Fuel economy accepts the four common units (MPG US, MPG UK / imperial, L/100km, and km/L) and converts internally, so a driver who tracks their car in L/100km can still answer a friend who only knows MPG. Fuel price is entered per US gallon, per UK gallon, or per litre, and currency is picked from twelve common options (USD, EUR, GBP, CAD, AUD, NZD, INR, TRY, JPY, BRL, ZAR, MXN) using the browser's Intl.NumberFormat so totals match how prices are written locally. The summary panel shows the total trip cost, the fuel cost broken out from optional extras (tolls, parking, ferry fares), the total distance in your chosen units and in kilometres, the total fuel in litres plus US and UK gallons, cost per mile and per kilometre, cost per 100 mi and per 100 km, and the equivalent L/100km fuel use. A per-person split converts the total into a clean share for two, three, four, or up to fifty people, which is what you actually want when you are about to drop the calculation into a group chat and ask everyone to send their share. A Copy summary button produces a clean text block ready for notes, email, or a budget spreadsheet, and a per-leg breakdown lists distance, fuel, and cost for every leg you entered. The math is straightforward: convert your fuel economy to litres per kilometre, multiply by the total trip distance in kilometres for total fuel, multiply by the price per litre for the fuel cost, then add any extras. The result is an estimate; real fuel use varies with traffic, speed, weather, load, and how aggressively the vehicle is driven, so treat the number as a planning figure. Everything runs locally in your browser. The distances, vehicle data, prices, and totals you enter are never uploaded, stored, or sent to any server.
