Lat Long Distance Calculator
Calculate the great-circle distance between two GPS coordinates in km, miles, nautical miles, meters, feet, and yards. Bearing and midpoint included.
Decimal degrees, DMS, or DDM. Examples: 40.7128, -74.0060, 40° 42' 46" N, 74° 0' 21" W.
Same flexible formats. Hemisphere letters (N, S, E, W) are accepted.
Great-circle distance
3,944.4 km
2,451.0 miles · 2,129.8 nautical miles
Computed with Vincenty's inverse formula on the WGS84 ellipsoid (5 iterations).

How to use
- Enter the origin coordinates as latitude, longitude. Decimal degrees, DMS with hemisphere letters, and DDM are all accepted.
- Enter the destination coordinates the same way. The two points appear in the parsed-coordinates panel as you type.
- Read the great-circle distance in kilometres, miles, nautical miles, metres, feet, and yards. Vincenty is shown by default with a Haversine cross-check.
- Check the initial bearing and 16-point compass direction, plus the great-circle midpoint, in the bearing and midpoint cards.
- Use Swap to reverse direction, Clear to reset both inputs, or click a sample route to try a known pair. Open Google Maps or OpenStreetMap to verify the route visually.
About this tool
Lat Long Distance Calculator computes the great-circle distance between two points on Earth from their latitude and longitude. Paste each point as decimal degrees (signed, such as 40.7128, -74.0060), as Degrees Minutes Seconds with hemisphere letters (40° 42' 46" N, 74° 0' 21" W), or as Degrees Decimal Minutes (40 42.768 N, 74 0.36 W); the input is normalized before any math runs. Two complementary models compute the answer side by side. The Haversine formula treats Earth as a sphere with mean radius 6371.0088 km and is accurate to about 0.5% anywhere on the surface. Vincenty's inverse formula models Earth as the WGS84 reference ellipsoid (semi-major axis 6378.137 km, flattening 1/298.257223563) and converges to sub-millimetre precision in a handful of iterations; near-antipodal pairs where Vincenty cannot converge fall back cleanly to Haversine with a note. The result panel shows the distance in kilometres, statute miles, nautical miles, metres, feet, and yards with a copy button on every value. The tool also outputs the initial bearing (true azimuth) at the origin in degrees and as a 16-point compass label (N, NNE, NE, and so on), the final bearing at the destination, and the great-circle midpoint coordinates in both decimal degrees and DMS. Direct map links open the two points in Google Maps and OpenStreetMap so the route can be verified visually. Useful for sanity-checking flight legs, planning ferry runs or sailing routes, estimating drone or surveying distances, validating geocoded spreadsheet rows, comparing as-the-crow-flies distance against a road route, and any homework or hobby project that needs a clean Haversine or Vincenty answer with full precision. This is straight-line geographic distance over Earth's surface, not a driving or flight-path distance. Everything runs locally in your browser, so the coordinates stay on your device.
