How to use

  1. Type or paste your app's metadata into each field. Counts update live and turn amber as you approach the App Store Connect limit, then turn red once you go over.
  2. Use the iPhone or iPad toggle to preview where the Name and Subtitle wrap in Search results and where the Description collapses above the 'more' link on the Product Page.
  3. Paste your Keywords as a comma-separated list. The tool counts the combined cost the way App Store Connect saves it, flags duplicates, and shows how many characters you would save by removing spaces around the commas.
  4. Check every URL field has a valid http or https scheme. App Store Connect rejects bare domains without a scheme.
  5. Click Copy report to grab a one-screen plain-text summary, grouped by App Store Connect section, ready to paste into a release ticket or marketing handoff.

About this tool

App Store Character Counter is a free, in-browser companion to App Store Connect that counts every published per-locale character limit at once for an iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, tvOS, or visionOS listing. The composer in App Store Connect splits these limits across App Information, Version Information, In-App Purchases, and App Review screens, and the web form does not always show a live counter for every field, so writers and ASO consultants end up pasting copy into the form just to see whether it fits. This tool brings all of those limits into one screen. Each field has a live count, a status bar, and a warn-then-over indicator: App Name 30, Subtitle 30, Promotional Text 170, Description 4,000, What's New 4,000, In-App Purchase display name 30, In-App Purchase description 45, App Review notes 4,000, Privacy Policy URL 255, Support URL 255, and Marketing URL 255. The Keywords field is special because its 100 character budget is computed against the comma-joined string the way Apple stores it, so the comma between every adjacent keyword counts toward the limit; the tool reports how many keywords were parsed, flags case-insensitive duplicates that waste characters Apple already merges, warns when a multi-word phrase contains a space (still allowed but eats the budget), and tells you exactly how many characters you would reclaim by removing the spaces around commas that App Store Connect saves as-is. Counts are grapheme-cluster aware via Intl.Segmenter where available, so flag emoji, combining marks, ZWJ family sequences, and any complex script count as one character the way the App Store Connect form shows them. Two side-by-side previews show what your listing actually looks like to a shopper: a Search result preview (App Name plus Subtitle truncated to a single iPhone or iPad row) and a Product Page preview (App Name, Subtitle, Promotional Text shown in full at the top of the description, and the Description collapsed above the iOS 'more' link at roughly 175 characters on iPhone or 255 on iPad). URL fields run a lightweight parse to flag any value that is not a valid http or https URL because App Store Connect rejects URLs without a scheme. A Copy report button generates a plain-text summary of every count grouped by App Store Connect section that is ready to paste into a release ticket, a Slack release thread, or a marketing handoff document. Everything runs locally in your browser, so unreleased app copy, marketing drafts, embargoed promo text, and IAP descriptions never leave your device.
