How to use

  1. Pick a device target with the Mobile / Desktop toggle. The feed caption preview and 'more' cutoff update to match.
  2. Type or paste your caption, bio, username, display name, comment, LIVE title, series description, and playlist title into the fields on the left. Each field shows a live grapheme count, a colored progress bar, and a 'characters left' line.
  3. Watch the right column for live previews: a feed caption preview with the 'more' cutoff, a search result preview with the ~75 character caption truncation, and a profile bio preview with the ~50 character Discover card cutoff.
  4. Review the caption analysis panel for lines, hashtags, at-mentions, links, and emoji to make sure the caption renders the way you expect, and watch the username validation list for TikTok's letter, digit, underscore, and single-period rule.
  5. Click Load sample to see a worked example, Clear all to reset every field, or Copy report to grab a plain-text summary of every counter for handoff or QA.

About this tool

TikTok Character Counter is a free in-browser counter that mirrors every published TikTok text limit in a single place, so a creator can write a caption, bio, username, display name, comment, LIVE title, series description, and playlist title side by side and see exactly where each field will be cut off or rejected. The video caption budget is 4,000 characters (TikTok grew this from 150 to 300 to 2,200 to 4,000 over several releases) and that budget includes every hashtag, every at-mention, and every emoji you place in the caption, so the tool tags hashtags and at-mentions as you type and shows their combined character cost. The bio cap is 80 characters and the bio renders in a few different places: full on your profile, often cut around 50 characters on Discover and account search cards. The username cap is 24 characters with the TikTok-specific rule that only letters, digits, underscores, and at most one period are allowed, plus the period cannot start or end the handle, and the handle must be at least 2 characters; the tool validates against all of these rules and shows a clear list of issues. Display name (nickname) is 30 characters of free-form unicode including emoji. Comments and replies cap at 150 characters each. LIVE titles cap at 32 characters. Series descriptions cap at 150 characters. Playlist titles cap at 40 characters. A feed caption preview shows the first ~100 characters (mobile) or ~140 (desktop) above the 'more' link so you can place the hook above the fold. A search result preview shows the ~75-character caption truncation that appears in TikTok search rows. A profile bio preview shows the full bio rendering on the profile plus the ~50-character cutoff used on Discover cards. All counting is grapheme cluster aware via Intl.Segmenter where available, so flag emoji, surrogate-pair pictographs, and accented letters built from combining marks each count as one character, matching the TikTok composer. Useful for creators, social media managers, content marketers, video editors, agencies, and anyone writing copy for a TikTok upload. Everything runs locally in your browser; the text you paste here is never uploaded.
