How to use

  1. Type or paste your responsive search ad copy into the headline and description fields, or click Load sample to start from an example.
  2. Watch the per-field counter: it turns amber as you approach the limit and red if you go over 30 characters on a headline or 90 on a description.
  3. Click Add headline or Add description to add more variants, up to 15 headlines and 4 descriptions, then use Remove to drop any you do not need.
  4. Enter your final URL and the two display URL paths (Path 1, Path 2). Each path is capped at 15 characters.
  5. Read the live ad preview on desktop and mobile, and use Copy report to copy a clean text summary of every field, count, and status.

About this tool

Google Ads Character Counter counts every Google Ads responsive search ad (RSA) asset against the limits Google enforces at save time and shows a live preview of how the ad will render on desktop and mobile. Add up to 15 headlines at 30 characters each, up to 4 descriptions at 90 characters each, and the two display URL paths at 15 characters each, and each field shows its remaining characters with a green, amber, or red counter that flips when you approach or exceed the limit. The tool counts characters by grapheme cluster using Intl.Segmenter where available, so a flag emoji, a surrogate-pair pictograph, or an accented letter built from combining marks counts as one character the same way the Google Ads editor does. The preview reproduces the Google sponsored search ad layout: the Sponsored badge, the favicon initial, the host name from your final URL, the display path built from path 1 and path 2, two stitched headlines separated by a vertical bar, and the longest valid description. Switch between desktop and mobile to see how the preview reflows at narrower widths. A summary panel reports how many headlines and descriptions are usable, how many are over the limit, and the path 1 and path 2 character counts side by side; an asset cheat sheet keeps the 30 / 90 / 15 numbers plus the Performance Max business name (25) and long headline (90) limits visible while you write. Useful for paid search managers writing RSAs in Google Ads Editor, freelancers handing off copy to a client account, in-house marketers checking RSA copy before pasting into the editor, and agencies QA-ing campaign exports without round-tripping through the Google Ads UI. Everything runs locally in your browser; no headlines, descriptions, or URLs are uploaded, logged, or shared, so confidential campaign copy stays on your device. Limits are based on Google's published Google Ads policies and may change over time; always confirm in Google Ads Editor before publishing.
