SWP Calculator

Project SWP withdrawals in your browser. Ending balance, plan longevity, or sustainable monthly income, with step-up withdrawals and a year by year schedule.

Calculator mode

Show the corpus left after a fixed number of months of regular withdrawals at the chosen expected return.

Plan details

The lump-sum amount invested at the start of the plan.

The amount you withdraw at the start of every month.

Annualized return you expect from the underlying fund. Conservative hybrid plans project 7% to 9%, diversified equity 10% to 12%.

Raise the monthly withdrawal by this percentage every year to keep pace with inflation. Leave at 0 for a flat SWP.

Withdrawal timing

Most automated SWPs credit at the start of the month. Switch to end-of-month for ordinary-annuity math.

Projections use the closed-form SWP balance B[n] = P x (1 + i)^n - W x ((1 + i)^n - 1) / i, multiplied by (1 + i) on the withdrawal annuity when withdrawals credit at the start of the month. Numbers assume a constant return and ignore taxes, exit loads, fund expense ratios, and inflation. This is a planning estimate, not investment advice.

How to use

  1. Pick a mode: Ending balance, Plan longevity, or Sustainable withdrawal.
  2. Choose a currency. Indian rupee is the default; switch to USD, EUR, GBP, CAD, AUD, JPY, TRY, SGD, or AED as needed.
  3. Enter the starting corpus and the expected annual return as a percent. Add the monthly withdrawal (or the duration for Sustainable mode).
  4. Set an Annual step-up percent if you want the monthly withdrawal to grow each year. Leave it at 0 for a flat SWP.
  5. Read the headline result, the withdrawn vs remaining composition bar, and the year by year schedule. Use Copy summary or Copy CSV to grab the numbers.

About this tool

SWP Calculator projects how a lump-sum corpus shrinks under a Systematic Withdrawal Plan. Three calculator modes cover the canonical SWP questions retirees and FIRE planners search for. Ending balance takes a starting corpus, monthly withdrawal, expected return, and duration and shows what is left at the end of the plan, the total amount withdrawn, and the interest the corpus earned along the way. Plan longevity takes a starting corpus, monthly withdrawal, and expected return and returns the exact month the corpus is exhausted, or reports that the plan lasts forever when interest covers the withdrawal. Sustainable withdrawal takes a corpus, expected return, and duration and solves for the maximum monthly withdrawal that depletes the corpus to exactly zero at the end of the term. Every mode supports an annual withdrawal step-up that raises the monthly withdrawal by a fixed percentage each year to track inflation. The math uses the closed-form SWP balance B[n] equals P times (1 plus i)^n minus W times ((1 plus i)^n minus 1) divided by i for ordinary annuities, multiplied by (1 plus i) on the withdrawal annuity when withdrawals credit at the start of the month, which is how most automated SWPs actually run the math. Step-up SWP is evaluated as a sum of yearly geometric annuities so the result stays exact at the monthly compounding cadence. Currency switches between Indian rupee, US dollar, Euro, British pound, Canadian dollar, Australian dollar, Japanese yen, Turkish lira, Singapore dollar, and UAE dirham with full Intl currency formatting. The year by year schedule shows the monthly withdrawal, amount withdrawn in that year, cumulative withdrawn, interest earned, and end of year balance for every year of the plan, and copies as CSV for a spreadsheet. A composition bar splits the starting corpus plus interest between the amount paid out and the amount remaining so you can see how fast a plan is drawing down at a glance. Useful for planning a retirement income from a lump sum, sizing an inflation-adjusted SWP that keeps real purchasing power flat, working backwards from a desired monthly income to the corpus you need, comparing a flat SWP against a step-up SWP, and stress testing the same plan at 7 percent, 9 percent, and 11 percent expected returns. Projections assume a constant return and ignore taxes, exit loads, expense ratios, and inflation in the corpus, so always cross check long term decisions with a qualified financial advisor.
