About this tool
Compound Interest Calculator answers the three questions every saver and investor asks. Future value mode takes a starting amount, an annual interest rate, a term in years and months, an optional monthly or yearly contribution, and a compounding frequency, then returns the projected balance using the standard formula FV = P × (1 + r/n)^(nt) with the annuity term C × [((1 + r/n)^(nt) − 1) / (r/n)] for periodic deposits. Time to goal mode reverses the equation: enter a target balance, and the tool binary-searches the term that lands the balance on the goal at your chosen rate and contribution. Required contribution mode takes a target and a term and solves for the monthly or yearly deposit needed to hit it. Pick a compounding frequency (annually, semi-annually, quarterly, monthly, weekly, daily, or continuously using FV = P × e^(rt)), choose contribution timing as end of period or start of period (annuity-due) so it matches how a 401(k), IRA, brokerage account, savings account, or CD actually credits money, and switch the currency between USD, EUR, GBP, CAD, AUD, JPY, INR, and TRY. A year-by-year growth schedule shows the starting balance, contributions added, interest earned, and ending balance for every year, and copies as CSV in one click for a spreadsheet, retirement plan, or college fund tracker. Common scenarios (30 year retirement at 7%, 18 year college fund at 6%, 5 year high-yield savings at 4.5%, 2 year emergency fund at 4%, 10 year lump sum at 8%, 3 year down payment at 5%) seed the inputs in one click. All math runs in your browser, so the amounts and goals you type stay on your device. Useful for planning retirement contributions, college savings, emergency funds, down payments, brokerage growth, CD ladders, and any scenario where money grows over time. The tool models fixed-rate, fully compounded scenarios; it does not include taxes, inflation, fees, market volatility, or variable returns, so always confirm long-term decisions with a qualified financial advisor.
