Image Trimmer
Automatically trim white, black, transparent, or custom-color borders from PNG, JPG, and WebP images in your browser. Live preview, no upload, no signup.
How to use
- Drop an image onto the upload area or click to pick a PNG, JPG, WebP, BMP, or GIF file (up to 25 MB).
- Pick a reference color: Auto samples the four corners, White or Black snap to pure values, Transparent uses the alpha channel, and Custom takes any color from the picker.
- Adjust the tolerance slider until the dashed preview box hugs the content. Raise it for JPEG noise, lower it for crisp PNGs.
- Optionally raise the Add margin slider to keep extra breathing room around the detected content.
- Pick an output format (Keep original, PNG, JPG, or WebP) and a quality if the format supports it, then click Trim and export.
- Click Download trimmed to save the cropped image. Your image is not uploaded.
About this tool
Image Trimmer automatically detects a uniform-colored or transparent border around a PNG, JPG, WebP, BMP, or GIF and crops the image down to the tight bounding box of the content inside. Drop a file, and the tool samples the four corners to guess the background color, scans every edge inward in real time, and overlays the detected trim region on a live preview so you can see exactly what will survive before you export. Reference picker covers the four common cases without thinking: Auto averages the corner pixels and is the right default for screenshots, scans, and exported icons; White and Black snap the reference to pure 255-255-255 or 0-0-0 for letterboxed renders and report exports; Transparent uses the alpha channel directly so a PNG sticker is trimmed to its visible silhouette without touching the colored pixels; and Custom takes any RGB color from the native color picker for matched-background designs. A tolerance slider from 0 to 60 lets you forgive JPEG compression noise, anti-aliased edges, and slightly off-white scanner backgrounds; a margin slider from 0 to 120 pixels adds breathing room around the detected content for shadows, halos, or print bleed. Per-side stats show how many pixels were removed from the top, right, bottom, and left, so you can sanity-check the trim against the original layout, and a live area-removed badge tells you at a glance how much you saved. Output keeps the original format by default, with explicit PNG, JPG, and WebP options and a quality slider for the lossy formats; JPG output that lacks alpha is filled with the reference color so transparent corners do not silently turn black. The entire pipeline runs on a local canvas through getImageData and toBlob, so screenshots of internal dashboards, scans of personal documents, exported product photography, and unreleased asset packs never leave your device. Useful for tightening up screenshots before pasting them into docs, removing the white background a screen recorder added to a logo export, cropping the matte off a scanned receipt, cleaning the transparent padding around an icon set, sizing a thumbnail for a hero card, or just answering the question how do I auto crop an image to its content without installing software.
