Driving Time Calculator

Calculate driving time and arrival time from distance and average speed. Multi-leg trips, stops, round trips, and mph or km/h.

Quick presets

Tap a preset for a common scenario, then tweak the numbers.

Trip settings

Pick distance and speed units, then optionally set a departure clock time and a round-trip toggle.

Units

24-hour clock. Leave blank to skip arrival time.

Round trip

Round trip doubles every leg and includes the return in the arrival time.

Useful for weekly commutes. The grand total multiplies the trip by this count.

Legs

Add a leg for each segment of the trip. Use the stop time to record breaks taken at the end of a leg (meals, fuel, sightseeing).

Leg name
Distance (mi)
Average speed (mph)
Stop after this leg (optional)

Drive: 3 h 5 min

Summary

Average speeds are estimates. Real drive time depends on traffic, weather, and road conditions.

Driving time

3 h 5 min

At 65 mph average

Total trip time

3 h 5 min

No stops

Total distance

200 mi

How to use

  1. Pick a unit combination: miles + mph for US driving, kilometres + km/h for metric driving, or a mixed pair if your numbers do not match the same system.
  2. Optionally set a departure clock time so the result includes an arrival time and a per-leg schedule. Use the round-trip toggle to double every leg, and the repeat field for trips that happen multiple times.
  3. Add a leg for each segment of the trip. Enter the distance and the average speed for that leg, and optionally a stop time for the break you plan to take at the end of it.
  4. Use Add leg for multi-stop drives, or one of the quick presets for common scenarios like a US highway drive, a UK motorway drive, or a weekly commute.
  5. Read the total driving time, the total trip time including stops, the average driving speed, and the arrival clock time. Use Copy summary to share a clean text block.

About this tool

Driving Time Calculator works out how long a drive will take from two simple inputs per leg: the distance and your average speed. The math is the standard time = distance / speed relationship, and the tool lets you build a realistic plan by stacking multiple legs at different speeds, adding stops at the end of each leg for meals, fuel, or sightseeing, doubling everything in one click for a round trip, and repeating the whole sequence (handy for a weekly commute totalling five round trips). Distance and speed each have their own unit, so you can pick miles + mph for US driving, kilometres + km/h for European or metric driving, or one of the two mixed options if your distance and your speed signs do not match the same system. An optional departure time field accepts a 24-hour clock value and produces both a single arrival time and a per-leg schedule with running clock times for every drive segment and stop. The summary panel shows total driving time (drive only), total trip time (drive plus stops), the total distance you will cover, your average driving speed for the whole trip, and the arrival clock time. A copy summary button packs the totals and the per-leg schedule into a clean text block ready for a group chat, a notes app, or a printed itinerary. Speeds in the real world vary with traffic, weather, road work, and how aggressively the vehicle is driven, so treat the result as a planning estimate and budget a buffer for highway congestion. Everything runs locally in the browser; the distances, speeds, departure time, and totals you enter are never uploaded, stored, or sent to any server.
