Copy the Markdown into GitHub, Notion, Obsidian, or any notes app, or use Print / PDF for a paper copy. Ticked items export as - [x].

Share a link

Generate a link that contains the whole checklist, including which items are ticked. The data is encoded in the link itself and is never sent to a server, so whoever opens it sees exactly this checklist.

Formatting cheatsheet

  • # Section name starts a new section header. Use as many sections as you like.
  • - Buy milk or a plain line both become a single tickable item.
  • - [x] Already done starts an item already ticked, so a checklist pasted back from Markdown keeps its progress.
  • Renaming or reordering lines keeps a ticked item ticked, because completion is matched by the item text.

Good to know

  • Everything runs in your browser. The checklist is not uploaded, logged, or saved to an account.
  • Closing the tab clears the checklist unless you have copied it out or generated a share link first.
  • The share link stores the checklist inside the link text itself, so there is no database and no tracking.
  • For ranked or scored decisions, the weighted decision matrix and tier list maker pick up where a simple checklist stops.

How to use

  1. Give the checklist a title, then type your items in the editor, one per line.
  2. Start a line with a hash sign (#) to create a section header, for example # Documents, to group related items.
  3. Tick items off in the checklist on the right. The progress bar and counters update as you go.
  4. Use Check all or Uncheck all to toggle the whole list, and load a sample to see the format in action.
  5. Copy the checklist as Markdown or plain text, use Print for a PDF, or click Generate share link to get a link that contains the whole checklist.

About this tool

Checklist Maker turns a plain list of items into an interactive, tickable checklist that runs entirely in your browser, with no signup, no account, and nothing uploaded. You type your items in the editor, one per line, and they appear instantly on the right as checkboxes you can tap to mark complete. A line that starts with a hash sign becomes a section header, so a packing list, a project plan, or an onboarding flow can be split into clearly labeled groups (Documents, Clothing, Tech, and so on) instead of one long undivided list. List markers like a leading dash or asterisk are optional, which means you can paste a list straight from notes, an email, or a spreadsheet and it just works, and an item written as a Markdown task with an x in the brackets starts off already ticked so a checklist copied back in from somewhere else keeps its progress. As you check items, a live progress bar and counters show how many are done, how many remain, and the percentage complete, which is the part a static text list cannot give you. Completion is matched by the item text rather than its position, so you can rename, reorder, add, or remove lines in the editor without losing what you have already ticked. Check all and uncheck all handle the whole list at once. When you are finished there are three ways to take the checklist with you: copy it as Markdown (ticked items export as task list checkboxes that GitHub, Notion, and Obsidian render natively), copy it as plain text for chat or email, or use Print to save a clean paper or PDF copy. There is also a share option that encodes the entire checklist, including which items are ticked, inside the link itself, so opening the link reproduces exactly the checklist on screen with no database and no tracking behind it. Because all of this is computed locally, the items you type, the boxes you tick, and the link you generate never leave your device. Use it for travel packing, moving house, grocery and shopping runs, event and party planning, daily and weekly routines, project and launch checklists, QA and pre-flight lists, study and revision plans, employee onboarding, and any other situation where a quick, shareable list of things to do beats a heavyweight task app. For decisions that need ranking or scoring rather than a simple done or not done, the weighted decision matrix and tier list maker take over, and the online notepad is there when you want free-form notes instead of discrete items.
