NPS Calculator
Calculate Net Promoter Score (NPS) from response counts or percentages. Three input modes, score breakdown, distribution chart, and verdict.
Enter how many people picked each score from 0 to 10. The total response count is computed for you.
Inputs
Enter how many people picked each score from 0 to 10. Leave a row blank if there were no responses for that score.

How NPS is calculated
Detractors
Score 0 to 6
Unhappy customers who can hurt your brand through negative word of mouth.
Passives
Score 7 or 8
Satisfied but unenthusiastic. They are vulnerable to competitive offers.
Promoters
Score 9 or 10
Loyal enthusiasts who keep buying and refer others, fueling growth.
Formula: NPS = %Promoters - %Detractors. The result is a whole number from -100 to +100. Passives are counted in the response total but do not contribute directly to the score.
- Above 0 is considered good (more promoters than detractors).
- Above 30 is great in most industries.
- Above 50 is excellent and rare across the customer base.
- Above 70 is world class and typical of cult brands.
How to use
- Pick an input mode: Counts per score for per-row histograms, Percent of group for summary numbers, or Paste raw scores for a column of 0-10 values.
- Enter your data. Counts mode shows one input per score from 0 to 10. Percent mode takes the three group percentages and an optional total. Paste mode accepts comma, space, or newline-separated 0-10 values.
- Read the NPS in the Score panel, along with the verdict band and the percent (and count, when known) of Promoters, Passives, and Detractors.
- Open the Score distribution panel to see the per-score histogram colored by bucket and find the score that is dragging the result down.
- Click Copy summary to grab a clean plain-text breakdown for a doc, a deck, or a customer success report. Use Load sample for a worked example or Clear to start over.
About this tool
NPS Calculator computes the Net Promoter Score, a customer loyalty metric defined by Bain and Company and Satmetrix that turns an answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend us to a friend or colleague, on a scale of 0 to 10?' into a single number from -100 to +100. Every response falls into one of three buckets: Detractors (scored 0 to 6), Passives (scored 7 or 8), and Promoters (scored 9 or 10). The score is the percent of Promoters minus the percent of Detractors. Passives are counted in the response total but do not contribute directly to the score. Three input modes cover every workflow. Counts per score takes one number per score from 0 to 10, matches the histogram every survey tool exports (Typeform, SurveyMonkey, Qualtrics, Google Forms, Delighted, AskNicely), and computes the total response count for you. Percent of group takes the three group percentages directly (and an optional total response count for estimated per-group counts) for when you only have a summary. Paste raw scores takes a column of 0-10 values (one per line, or comma or space separated), buckets every value, ignores blanks, and flags anything that is not a whole number from 0 to 10. The result panel shows the NPS as a signed whole number, a one-line verdict (Needs work below 0, Good above 0, Great above 30, Excellent above 50, World class above 70), exact percentages for each of the three groups with proportional bars, response counts when available, the average raw 0-10 score (for counts and paste modes), and a copy-ready plain-text summary you can paste into a doc, a Slack thread, or a customer success report. A score distribution panel renders the bucketed histogram (rose for detractors, amber for passives, emerald for promoters) so you can spot which score is dragging the result down. All math runs locally in your browser using ordinary arithmetic. No survey response is uploaded, logged, or shared, and no external service is contacted.
