Notes on calculations
- Net worth is the simplest scoreboard for personal finance: total assets minus total liabilities. The number itself matters less than how it changes over months and years.
- Liquid net worth strips out anything that cannot be converted to cash quickly. Retirement accounts, real estate, and vehicles are excluded; cash and investments stay in.
- Debt-to-asset above 50% is generally considered a high leverage level; above 100% means you owe more than you own (negative net worth). These thresholds are rules of thumb and not advice.
- Use market value (today's sale price) for real estate and vehicles rather than the price you paid; what you owe on those items belongs under Liabilities.
How to use
- Pick your currency from the dropdown. Locale formatting matches the chosen currency.
- Under Assets, fill in account balances and item values across the six categories. Use today's market value for real estate and vehicles, not the price you paid.
- Under Liabilities, enter the outstanding balance on every mortgage, credit card, loan, and any other debt.
- Watch the totals, net worth, liquid net worth, debt-to-asset ratio, and debt-to-equity ratio update as you type.
- Review the asset allocation and liability mix to see where your money sits and where your debt is concentrated.
- Copy the summary text to keep a snapshot you can compare against next quarter or next year.
About this tool
Net Worth Calculator builds a personal balance sheet from the values you type and turns it into a clear financial snapshot. Add what you own on the left side of the ledger across six asset categories (cash and savings; investments; retirement accounts like 401(k) and IRA; real estate; vehicles; and other assets such as business interests, collectibles, or valuables), and what you owe on the right side across six liability categories (mortgages; credit cards; student loans; auto loans; personal loans and lines of credit; and other debt such as medical bills or tax debt). Every row is editable with a free-form name and an amount, every category has a per-row Add button, and rows can be removed individually with the X button. The calculator updates totals as you type. Beyond the headline number, the tool reports liquid net worth (cash and investments minus every liability, so retirement, real estate, and vehicles are excluded), debt-to-asset ratio (liabilities divided by assets, a common leverage gauge where above 50% is high and above 100% means you owe more than you own), and debt-to-equity ratio (liabilities divided by net worth, shown only when net worth is positive). An asset allocation breakdown shows the percentage of total assets in each category, and a parallel liability mix shows the share of total debt by category, so you can spot concentration risk at a glance. Currency selector covers seventeen of the most-used currencies with locale-aware formatting; values are formatted using the Intl API so amounts read naturally for the chosen region. A plain-text summary captures every number on the page and can be copied straight into a financial journal, a note to a planner, or a tracking spreadsheet. Useful for an annual financial check-in, tracking your number over time, calculating it as a couple or household, preparing a loan application, or sanity-checking how leveraged you are right now. Every value stays in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
