How to use

About this tool

Count Occurrences tells you exactly how many times a specific word, phrase, or pattern appears inside a block of text. Unlike a word frequency table that lists every word at once, this tool focuses on the terms you actually care about: type one term per line and each is counted on its own, so you can compare several words or phrases side by side. Matching is flexible enough for real documents. Turn case sensitivity on to treat Dog and dog as different, switch on whole-word matching so cat does not match inside category, or enable regex mode to read each line as a regular expression for patterns like colou?r or a four-digit year. A density column shows each term's count as a percentage of the total word count, which is useful for editors and writers checking for repetition or for a quick keyword check. A highlighted preview marks every match in place so you can see where the matches fall, not just how many there are. Invalid regular expressions are reported on their own row without breaking the rest of the counts, and very large pastes are handled without freezing the page. Everything runs in your browser, so the text you search is never uploaded to a server.
