Percentage to Fraction Converter

Convert a percentage to a fraction in simplest form, and a fraction back to a percentage. Exact math, mixed numbers, and repeating decimals. No signup.

Conversion direction

Enter a percentage (37.5%) or a fraction (3/8). The direction is detected from the slash.

Typed digits are treated as exact. A truncated decimal like 66.67% is read as exactly 66.67%, not as two-thirds.

Every conversion is computed exactly in your browser with whole-number math. Nothing is sent to a server.

How to use

  1. Choose a direction, or leave it on Auto detect, which reads any input with a slash as a fraction and everything else as a percentage.
  2. Type your value: a percentage like 37.5% (the percent sign is optional) or a fraction like 3/8 or a mixed number like 5 3/4.
  3. Read the main result, which is the fraction in simplest form for a percentage, or the exact percentage for a fraction.
  4. Check the extra rows for the mixed number, the decimal value, and any repeating block shown in parentheses.
  5. Use Copy result to grab the answer, or pick a sample to see common conversions. Everything runs in your browser.

About this tool

Percentage to Fraction Converter turns a percent into a fraction in simplest form, and turns a fraction back into a percentage, with both directions handled in one place. A percentage is just a number out of one hundred, so 25% means 25/100, which reduces to 1/4, and 37.5% means 37.5/100, which reduces to 3/8. The tool reads the digits you type as exact, divides by one hundred, and reduces the result by the greatest common divisor so the fraction is always in lowest terms. When the value is one hundred percent or more, you also get the result written as a mixed number, so 150% is shown as 3/2 and as 1 1/2. Going the other way, the tool multiplies a fraction by one hundred to produce the percentage, so 3/8 becomes 37.5% and 7/4 becomes 175%. Fractions whose percentage does not terminate, like one third, are rendered as exact repeating decimals with the repeating block wrapped in parentheses, so 1/3 becomes 33.(3) percent rather than a rounded-off value. Input is flexible: percentages can be typed with or without the percent sign, fractions can use a slash like 3/8, mixed numbers like 5 3/4 are accepted, and plain decimals work in either direction. All of the arithmetic runs on whole-number big-integer math in your browser, so there is no floating-point rounding error, nothing is uploaded, and the tool is free with no signup. It pairs naturally with the decimal to fraction converter, the fraction calculator, and the percentage calculator for related conversions.
