Image metadata remover
What this tool removes
- EXIF camera metadata, including camera make and model, lens, exposure, ISO, and capture time.
- GPS coordinates and altitude embedded by phones and modern cameras.
- XMP packets from Adobe and similar tools, including ratings, software versions, and edit history.
- IPTC keywords, captions, and the Photoshop image resource block.
- JPEG comments, vendor APP blocks, and embedded preview thumbnails.
- PNG text chunks (tEXt, iTXt, zTXt), tIME timestamps, and eXIf blocks.
- WebP EXIF, XMP, and (optionally) ICCP chunks, with VP8X feature flags rewritten.
- Color profiles and color hints (configurable per format).
How to use
- Drag a JPG, PNG, or WebP photo into the drop zone, or click to pick a file. The image is read into your browser; nothing is uploaded.
- Review the report. Each removed block shows what was in the file (EXIF, GPS, XMP, IPTC, color profile, comment, text chunk, timestamp, thumbnail, vendor data) and how many bytes it occupied.
- Adjust the Removal options if needed. By default the tool keeps the JFIF header, Adobe APP14, and PNG color hints because they affect rendering on some viewers; turn them off for the most aggressive clean.
- Click Download cleaned image to save the scrubbed file. The pixel data is preserved bit-for-bit, so there is no quality loss.
- Use the Clear button to drop the file and start over with another image.
About this tool
Image Metadata Remover scrubs every privacy-sensitive metadata block from a photo without re-encoding the pixels. Drop a JPG, PNG, or WebP into the tool and it parses the file structure at the byte level: JPEG APP segments, PNG ancillary chunks, and WebP RIFF chunks. It identifies EXIF camera data, GPS coordinates and altitude, IPTC keywords and captions, Adobe XMP packets (often containing edit history and software versions), embedded preview thumbnails, JPEG and PNG comments, PNG text chunks (tEXt, iTXt, zTXt), modification timestamps, vendor blocks from Samsung, Olympus, Canon, Pentax, Multi-Picture Format and others, and optionally ICC color profiles and PNG color hints. Each block is shown with its type, byte size, and a plain-English description so you understand exactly what was hiding in the file before you posted it. The output is bit-for-bit identical to the original where the pixel data is concerned: no JPEG quality loss, no PNG re-compression, no WebP re-encoding, so quality and file integrity are preserved. Toggle Keep ICC color profile when you need accurate colors for print, Keep color hints to preserve PNG sRGB/gamma chunks, Keep JFIF header for maximum compatibility with older viewers, or Keep Adobe APP14 for CMYK-derived JPEGs. The cleaned image downloads with a -no-metadata suffix in the same format as the source. Everything happens locally in your browser, which is the entire point of a privacy tool: the photo you are scrubbing never leaves your device, never touches our servers, and never appears in any log. Useful before sharing photos publicly, uploading to social media or job applications, sending images over email, publishing screenshots from a work machine, releasing photos under a Creative Commons license, or anywhere you want to be sure the file does not leak your home address, the camera you own, or the editor you use.
