About the formula

This converter uses the simple device CMYK formula, which is the industry baseline for translating an sRGB color to plate percentages. K is derived from the brightest channel, then C, M, and Y are scaled so the residual color matches the target. RGB to CMYK to RGB is a lossless round-trip when both sides use this formula.

For exact press output you need an ICC profile (for example U.S. Web Coated SWOP v2 or Coated FOGRA39) applied by a color-managed pipeline such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Affinity Publisher, or your printer's preflight. Use the CMYK values from this tool as a starting point, then confirm with a hard proof from the press.

How to use

  1. Pick a direction: RGB / HEX to CMYK to start from a screen color, or CMYK to RGB / HEX to start from a print spec.
  2. Type or paste your color, or use the picker and quick samples (process cyan, magenta, yellow, rich black, and common brand tones).
  3. Read the CMYK percentages and HEX or RGB result in the All formats panel and copy any value with one click.
  4. Check the total ink coverage row before sending to press; many four-color jobs cap coverage near 240 to 320 percent.
  5. Click Swap direction to round-trip your converted color back, or Clear input to start over.

About this tool

CMYK Color Converter translates between CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, key/black), RGB, and HEX so designers and print teams can move a brand color between screen and press without guessing. Type a HEX or RGB value (or pick one with the color picker) to see the CMYK plate percentages used in print briefs, or type the four CMYK percentages straight from a printer spec to see the screen equivalent. The page shows a live swatch, an integer CMYK breakdown ready to paste into Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Affinity Publisher, Figma, CorelDRAW, or a printer order form, a CSS color-5 cmyk() string, individual channel values for each format, and a total ink coverage figure so you can sanity-check against the typical 240 to 320 percent press limit. Conversions use the standard simple device CMYK formula (K from the brightest channel, then C, M, Y scaled by the residual), which is the industry baseline and round-trips RGB to CMYK to RGB without loss. For exact press output you still need an ICC profile such as U.S. Web Coated SWOP v2 or Coated FOGRA39 applied in a color-managed pipeline, so use the values from this tool as a starting point and confirm with a hard proof. Everything runs in your browser, so unreleased brand colors, client palettes, and print specs stay on your device.
