About the bionic reading pattern

The bionic reading pattern bolds the first portion of each word as a visual anchor. There is no scientific consensus that it improves comprehension or speed for everyone, and several controlled studies have failed to find a statistically significant effect on reading rate. Many readers still report that it feels calmer or easier to skim, which is enough reason to try it on long-form material. Use this tool to test the effect with your own content. The conversion runs entirely in your browser, so nothing you paste is sent to a server or stored.

How to use

  1. Paste or type your text into the input area on the left.
  2. Pick a fixation level (Light, Standard, or Strong) to control how much of each word is bolded.
  3. Adjust the minimum word length, the function-word skip toggle, and the trailing opacity until the preview reads the way you want.
  4. Use Copy styled to paste the formatted text into Notion, Gmail, Google Docs, or Word with the bold prefixes preserved.
  5. Use Copy HTML for the raw markup, Copy markdown for editors that do not accept HTML, or copy the standalone HTML page to save the result as an offline .html file.

About this tool

Bionic Reading Converter rewrites any block of text into the bionic reading pattern: the first portion of each word is set in bold and the trailing letters can be dimmed so the eye locks onto the strongest cue first. Three fixation levels (Light, Standard, Strong) control how aggressively each word is bolded, a minimum word length toggle prevents tiny words from getting noisy, and an optional rule skips common English function words (the, and, of, to, in, etc.) so the bold rhythm stays on content. The preview pane shows the formatted output on a light reading background, and three copy actions let you paste the result wherever you read: Copy styled writes both rich text and HTML to the clipboard for targets like Notion, Gmail, Google Docs, and Word; Copy HTML pastes the raw markup for blogs, CMSs, and email templates; Copy markdown pastes a Markdown version with bold-prefixed words for editors that strip HTML. A separate Standalone HTML page output gives you a full styled document you can save as a .html file and open in any browser to read offline. The tool also reports how many words were bolded out of the total so you can tell at a glance how much of the text was transformed at the current settings. Useful for skimming long articles, reviewing your own drafts before publishing, building reading material for students who struggle with focus, and experimenting with whether the bionic pattern helps your eye move faster through dense paragraphs. Bionic reading is a typographic adjustment rather than a clinical treatment, and the published evidence on whether it actually increases reading speed or comprehension is mixed; treat the effect as a personal preference rather than a guaranteed gain. The entire conversion runs in your browser, so the text you paste, the HTML output, and the formatted preview never leave your device.
